FINALLY. After a month of trying to get this project finished, I'm uploading my first ever craft tutorial.
Last year, while I was costuming a local production of "Peter and the Starcatcher," I made a couple of these Starcatcher amulets for our Lucy and Lord Astor to wear on stage. I wanted the necklaces to resemble vintage armillary spheres, like this:
After scavenging my craft cabinet and bead collection for supplies, I came up with these:
Then, as a gift to all of the cast and crew members, I made about 15 more of them.
The second series of ornaments were a lot lighter weight and had crystals in the center, since I couldn't track down any more of the centerpieces I used for the first two. I also switched out the heavier brass rings (the kind you'd use to make a dreamcatcher) for the thin metal bangles you can buy at Walmart. I think they make great christmas ornaments, and honestly, I just enjoy making them. It's a great introduction to wire wrapping and beading.
For this tutorial, I used some leftover gears and clock pieces that I had bought for another costuming project. I'm pretty sure they came from Michael's, but you can usually find this kind of thing in the beading or scrapbooking section of the craft stores.
This is one of the first tutorials I've filmed, so I apologize if parts of it are a little rough. I'm trying to get better at these! Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions on how to make better tutorials. And if you make one of these, send me a picture!
Nice job. On future tutorials, you may want to superimpose a graphic that lets viewers know approximate LENGTH of wire to use. I imagine it can be easily construed from the video for this project, but it is always nice to see it spelled out.
